This presentation, “Enhancing Skin Substitute Performance with Type-I Collagen,” presents the scientific and clinical rationale for using high-purity, native, uncross-linked Type-I collagen as an advanced regenerative biomaterial, highlighting how collagen purity, nativity, fibrillar structure, porosity, and biochemical modification through phosphorylation can enhance cellular interactions, vascularization, and tissue regeneration. Using Helicoll® as the clinical example, it reviews randomized clinical evidence in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and venous leg ulcers (VLUs), including comparisons with amniotic-derived matrices, and emphasizes the potential of phosphorylated, purified Type-I collagen to function as a biologically interactive regenerative matrix rather than merely a wound covering or dressing
